  • The "Wow!" I mentioned, began outside the gate. I need say nothing about this. I will say however, that I do know exactly how lucky I am that I live in one of the most freedom celebrating cities on the planet. I love my hometown.
  • Austin's most famous Texas-Swing band, Asleep At The Wheel, plays opening day every year because they were the first band on the first day of the first ACL Music Fest. That's Ray Benson. I through that in because I only know the names of a few other performers I'll see today.
  • The band has added a new fiddler since I saw them last year. I wish I'd gotten her name. She was wonderful.

  • This is about as sunny as it got on Friday. That kept the temperature way down, compared to the last several years. It was maybe 90°F at the most.
  • Vampire Weekend was, perhaps, my most anticipated acts of the festival. They did not disappoint.
  • I don't know what the drummer found on that cymbal, but it sure looks to be good.

  • My other buddy (I only have two, *smirk*), Tom Zinn, also in the photographer's pit for Gogol Bordello. He's going to have some very interesting images. Gogol went off like a incendiary bomb. I never knew gypsies had that much energy.
