Jolyn Janis
Jolyn was interested in 'seeing the process' of how I got from the plethora of shots I took on Thursday to the hand full of images I offered for publication on Friday morning. I guess I do this more or less instinctively now. However, I find that if I ask Jolyn, for instance, to show me her favorite 5 images, they will usually not be the same 5 I'd pick. We each have our personal biases that guide us. She's caused me to rethink the process. Is this a good thing? I suppose it is interesting. I can see that I just seem to wander around till I find something that appeals to my eye then I begin to concentrate on that. Then I work it till I find the light angle and composition that works best. Then I work that until I either 'feel' that I got the shot, or I just give up trying and move on to something else. I could also mention that I didn't shoot all these consecutively. Jolyn was the first of the six cast members I photographed. I 'warmed-up' with her. Then I came back to concentrate on her facial close-up after I had shot most of the other cast members. As it turns out, that was a good decision. Those close-ups are arresting. I shot the group together at the end of the evening.
